Problem Seeing Up Close?

If you have a problem seeing up close and are tired of the hassle of reading glasses or bifocals-YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Presbyopia is the age related focusing problem that impacts almost everyone entering their 40’s and beyond. Presbyopia causes a gradual and progressive decrease in your ability to focus and see things up close--and at arm’s length. Pretty much every day at The Eye Care & Surgery Center we have discussions with patients about options for near vision correction, including if LASIK is possible, whether multifocal lens implants might be appropriate, and even the option of multifocal contact lenses and progressive eyeglass lenses. We are pleased to be able to provide KAMRA, an advanced technology corneal inlay for near vision correction that can help replace dependence on reading glasses and bifocals. KAMRA can provide you a range of clear vision for near and arm’s length focusing problems caused by presbyopia.

At The Eye Care & Surgery Center, Corneal Specialist Joel Confino, M.D. provides a Free Evaluation for presbyopia. He can then offer the full range of presbyopia near vision correction options including KAMRA Corneal Inlay to help you see clearly far away, up close and at distances in between.

Music During Cataract Surgery?

Why would you hear music during cataract surgery? For anyone having cataract surgery there is always the question of what to expect. While your cataract surgeon and their staff will have explained many details and reviewed the eye drops and medications you might be given, sometimes patients are surprised to hear music playing during their cataract surgery. Depending on your cataract surgeon’s preferences, many times it is useful to have some relaxing music playing to help you have a calm and pleasant experience. In fact, research presented in journal Nature demonstrates that certain types of music reduce anxiety and actually lower blood pressure during eye surgery! So, if you hear music during your cataract surgery, relax and enjoy!

Eye Photos for High Blood Pressure

Eye photos for high blood pressure? Why? When you visit us for your comprehensive eye exam we will perform a very careful examination of the inside of your eye so that we can study the health of the blood vessels and the retina itself, as this is an indication of your overall blood vessel health. Your primary care doctor will also take the time to do a more cursory examination of the retina and blood vessels-especially if you have diabetes or high blood pressure. Recently, a phone based app was developed to help emergency room physicians quickly evaluate the retina and photograph it to help make quicker and more accurate diagnoses of high blood pressure related emergencies. Sometimes high blood pressure can result of narrowing of the retinal blood vessels, blockage of blood vessels and even bleeding or hemorrhages. If you have high blood pressure that causes changes in your retinal blood vessels we may even ask to photograph your when you have an eye exam.

If you or someone you know has high blood pressure it is important to have regular eye exams at the recommended times you doctor requests. Please schedule an eye exam. Please call The Eye Care & Surgery Center at 908-789-8999, visit The Eye Care & Surgery Center, Google+ or facebook.com/eyecareandsurgerycenter to schedule an appointment.

Pam Talks About LASIK

“I wore glasses since I was 3 years old. I was cross eyed I had that corrected at the age of 11. But still had so much more going on I was told I would not have 20/20 vision. I come to except that. Then I heard about Lasik surgery to correct your vision it was the most exciting news I have ever heard. Finally I would be able to get rid of my glasses no more migraines that I would get from the frame pushing down on the bridge of my nose and the back of my ears. I would be able to see everything in front of me without squinting, no more sitting in the front row at the movie theater or in front of the TV. Fast forward to March of last year. I went to The Eye Care & Surgery Center. It was just an annual checkup. At the end of my visit they asked if I was interested in Lasik, I said sure not really wanting to get my hopes up. Came back for the testing to make sure I was a candidate. They are very thorough with all of the test which I think is a good thing. They said it would take a week to let me know the results. I went home not thinking about it, and in two days I got a call, a call that changed everything for me. I was a candidate I was able to have the surgery. Jerette worked very close with me every step of the way, she even helped me get in ASAP, do to my work schedule. Dr. Confino was excellent the surgery wasn't even 30 minutes and the nursing staff was amazing one nurse held my hand the whole time. I thought that was sweet. The next day I was able to see everything. It felt amazing everything was just so vibrant. Recovery was so fast just like they say, come March 2018 it'll be a year after surgery and it has been wonderful.”-Pam

Exercise Effect on Eye Health & Physiology

Physical exercise has been known to be one of the most important factors in preventing cardiovascular disorders and may even help prevent some neurodegenerative diseases. A recent review of clinical studies compared the results of various reports regarding the effects of physical exercises on intraocular pressure (IOP), myopia (nearsightedness) and eye circulation and blood flow.

Eye Pressure or Intraocular Pressure (IOP)
Exercises that involve movement, called dynamic exercises, are known to reduce IOP for a brief period after participating. However, certain isometric exercises such a Yoga in “downward” positions may increase IOP.
Myopia or Nearsightedness
There is a solid connection between the time being spent outdoor and reduction in the odds of developing myopia-in fact 2% less odds for every hour spent outdoors!
Eye Circulation
Physical exercises increase retinal blood flow up to 140%, thus providing more blood to retina and stimulating better circulation.

The message is clear-staying fit and active throughout life can be of great long-term benefit to your eyes!

Dry Eye Treatment with Omega 3 Supplements

About Dry Eye & Omega 3 SupplementsDry Eye Disease (DED) is a global problem that affects more than 30 million people in the United States alone. Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial disease of the tear film and ocular surface that can result in eye pain and impaired vision. The main dry eye treatments are typically supportive rather than therapeutic. Based on current clinical studies in the journal Ophthalmology, today we know that moderate daily dose of Omega 3 Supplements for about 3 months resulted in reduced tear osmolarity and increased tear stability in people with DED and the phospholipid form called Krill Oil is even more therapeutic, reducing DED symptoms.

If you or someone you know suffers from dry eye disease or experiences gritty, sandy, dry red eyes and wishes to explore whether Omega 3 Supplements be helpful, please call The Eye Care & Surgery Center at 908-789-8999, visit The Eye Care & Surgery Center, Google+ or facebook.com/eyecareandsurgerycenter to schedule an appointment.
