Dry Eye Disease & Migraine Headaches

What do migraine headaches have to do with dry eye disease? As it turns out researchers reporting on a large population based study in the journal JAMA Ophthalmology found that the odds of having dry eye disease with a diagnosis of migraine headaches was at least 20% higher than that of individuals without a diagnosis of migraine headaches. They also concluded that while this association does not reflect a cause and effect relationship it does identify a risk factor that suggests we shouldn’t overlook dry eye disease in patients complaining of migraine headaches.

Vision Problems & Senior Falling Risk

Did you know that falling is a substantial cause of many problems for seniors? Further, fear of falling (FoF) and activity limitation and restricted mobility due to FoF are also more common in older adults with vision impairment (VI) and are associated with declines in health related quality of life and independence. Vision impairment (VI) and blindness affect 1 in 11 Americans aged 65 and older in the United States. Because of the aging of the population, the number of older adults with VI is predicted to increase through at least 2050. VI is associated with lack of independence, a poor sense of well being, and risk of falls. In a given year, approximately one third of adults aged 65 and older will fall and VI more than doubles this risk. Thus the importance of regular eye exams to detect, diagnose, prevent and treat common senior eye problems such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye problems cannot be stressed enough!

Facial Rejuvenation for My Daughter’s Wedding

"I had the most wonderful experience at the Eye Care & Surgery Center with Dr. Chelnis who is a cosmetic eye and facial plastic surgeon. Melissa Shares Her LASIK Experience

“One of the best decisions that have ever done was getting LASIK with Dr. Joel Confino. Pre-procedure, I was 28 years old at the time, nearsighted and had been wearing glasses/contacts since middle school. I was always curious and wanted to see if I even qualified for LASIK or any eye corrective procedure. I had so many questions so I scheduled a free consultation at The Eye Care & Surgery Center in the Westfield location. On the day of the consultation, I spent approximately 2 hours at the office where I underwent extensive tests (tear production test etc.) – nothing was painful but my eyes were dilated for the rest of the day (approximately 10 hours so make sure you wear sun glasses if you plan on being outdoors). My procedure was done a month later in the late evening (7 PM). In total, the procedure took 20 minutes from start to finish. They do procedures in the evening so you can go to work the same day (and not miss any days). I drove myself to my follow up appointment the next morning. My only regret was not getting this done sooner! Today, I have 20/20 vision! The staff was very professional, pleasant, and informative especially Jerette Lerner who is the Director of the Surgical Program. The staff goes above and beyond to make their patients comfortable. Thank you for all that you do!"
